Our 16 th Annual Sturgeon/Spring Chinook Combo Derby continued a tradition of fun, excitement and camaraderie, centered around two of our most prized fish species in all of the Northwest.
Over 100 3-person teams competed in 2008 under unseasonably cold and windy conditions. The Columbia River offered substantial opportunity for Spring Chinook, while the Willamette River was holding solid numbers of Sturgeon.
A total of 30 Spring Chinook and 34 keeper-Sized Sturgeon were weighed-in on the scales. Winning teams were separated by precious little weight.
A hot dinner including ribs and chicken warmed anglers. Prizes for each and every team assured no one went home empty handed. And the biggest winners of all were sport fishermen and fish, as all derby proceeds were donated to the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association.
Dates and entry information for the 2009 Combo Derby will be announced in the Fall of 2008. It's an event you won't want to miss!
