Fishing report 10-9

Chinook fishing around the region continues to be good for many anglers. The Columbia is still kicking out fish for folks around Bonneville dam and up near the mouth of the Klickitat and Drano lake. These fisheries are dominated by fishermen trolling 360 flashers as well as fishermen hover fishing eggs. Have both on board so that you can “match the hatch” if one technique is out doing the other on any given day.

In Tillamook and Nehalem Bay the fishing has been great! We have Pro staff in both areas and the reports have been that the chinook fishing has been killer and the Coho are numerous as well. Trolling 360 flashers with spinners, spin-n-fish, Spindawgs and even herring has been one of the most productive techniques around. Trolling with triangle flashers and herring has also been quite productive for folks. Again, having both options on board is always advised. We don’t have much rain in the forseable future, so the bay fisheries should continue to produce daily.

In the rivers along the coast the Chinook have been peaking their heads in, biding their time in the tidewater areas. Just waiting in some rain. The rivers should get REALLY good once we do get that bump in river height. These Chinook love to move on heavy rain storms and that usually means raising rivers. So, large bright colored kwikfish or Maglips are what many folks will be using when backtrolling. Back bouncers will opt for large clusters of eggs with sand shrimp, herring chunks or tuna chunks mixed in will be common. Bobber fishermen will be using the same types of bait as well.

Tributary Coho fishing is another fishery that has already kicked off but will get increasingly more productive as we get the much needed rain that should be on the way any day. These chrome, delicious and acrobatic fish flush into fresh water tributaries as soon as they smell the onset of rain. Meaning they will be aggressive! Twitching jigs, plugs, spinners, spoons and bait will all trick these fish into biting. Find walking speed water along fast water seems and you will be in the right spot!

Dorena Reservoir and Lost Creek reservoir both just received over 2,500 Trout each! This can mean quick limits for those that still have Trout fishing on their mind. Fishing bait is a typical go-to however anglers casting spinners or kastmasters will find great success as well. Remember, these fish are stocking up their fat reserves to help last through the winter, so being aggressive is the name of the game for them.

Bottom fishing remains a killer option right now and Pro, Andy Martin, is the shining example as to why. He has been finding limits of nice Lingcod and a wide variety of other bottom fish. Vertical jigs, farallon feathers and Swimbaits have been helping him line his fish box lately!

Razor Clamming was open for 5 days last week and reports of quick limits were the norm. Be on the look out for the next couple of openers to get in on your own limit of Razors!

Crabbing has been great and getting even better as the weather cools down. The Crab are filling out nicely and should continue to fill out as the weeks go on
