Fishing report 10-28
Coastal Fall Chinook
Coastal Fall Chinook has continued to be a bright spot with how little water we have had this fall. These fish have been milling around in the ocean and bays just biding their time. This has given folks ample opportunity to find fresh Chinook while trolling triangle flashers and herring or 360 flashers with small spinners or hard spinning baits. The rain has come though so expect the bays to start to empty out as fish make their way into the rivers. With that being said, donât count out the bay fisheries for the next 3 weeks. There have been many fish caught the week of Thanksgiving by folks trolling herring in the Ghost Hole of Tillamook bay.
Chinook and Coho in the Coastal Tributaries
The rain has come and that means finally, we can start getting after Chinook and Coho in the coastal tributaries! Those in the know, understand why these fisheries are so fun as you have some of the biggest Chinook of the year that you are chasing out at a fast moving river in a drift boat. You catch them on bobbers and bait, backbouncing, kwikfish and even twitching jigs. It can be an amazing fishery if you time your trip around dropping rivers and good weather patterns.
Tributary Coho Fishing
Tributary Coho fishing is on! This rain will 100% get the Coho snapping and pushing into rivers. The A run fish that are still around will be getting pretty dark but the new B Run Coho are showing up now! They are bigger, bright, good biters and seem to always have an attitude! Twitching jigs, spinners, spoons, bait and plugs will all work and honestly you should have a little bit of everything in your bag when you go to chase these awesome fish!
Bottomfishing
Bottomfishing remains great, the only real challenge this time of year is the weather. You will have days of great weather and then once a storm rolls in itâs not safe to cross the bar. So keep a watchful eye on the wind and weather predictions before setting up your trip.
Crabbing
Crabbing has been stellar and many of our Pro Staff that are still fishing in the bay have been running combo Salmon and Crab trips. Which is an easy sell, because often time this time of year you can drop 4 or 5 pods and get the whole boats limit of dangers pretty easily!
Trout Fishing
Trout fishing is always a good option in the fall. It definitely does not get the attention that other fisheries do but it can be very productive. These fish know that winter is coming and they are feverishly eating whatever they can to try and pack on the weight to last through the winter. Fishing bait is always a great choice and especially in some of the lakes and ponds that have been the most recently stocked.
