Fishing report 10-3
Columbia River – Coho
The Coho fishing on the Columbia has been extremely good. Anglers down in Astoria have been catching boat limits of Coho with hardly any other folks around. This bite has been steady and should continue for several more weeks as the bigger B-Run fish start moving in.
Techniques: Trolling 360 flashers with small spinners, Spin-N-Fish, Cut Plugs, Stuffer Baits, Superbaits
Coastal Crabbing
Crabbing along the coast continues to improve, with Astoria being especially productive and Tillamook showing equally strong action.
Tillamook & Nehalem Bays – Chinook & Coho
Both Tillamook and Nehalem bays have been producing excellent catches of Chinook and Coho. Pro Staff Terry Mulkey has been finding great success trolling 360 flashers with his 3.5 Minnie Mulkey Spinners, boating several Chinook over 30 lbs recently. Pro Staff David Johnson has also been having a stellar run, with many of his fish coming on the new Yakima Bait Company Cut Plug baits.
Techniques: Trolling 360 flashers, 3.5 Minnie Mulkey Spinners, Yakima Bait Cut Plugs
Bottom Fishing – Lingcod & Mixed Bag
Bottom fishing has been stellar. Pro Staff Ted Teufel has been alternating between bottomfish in the ocean and Salmon in the bays. Limits have been common, with some really large Lingcod showing up in the catch.
Techniques: Vertical jigs, Twin Tail Scampis, Shrimp Flies
Offshore – Albacore Tuna
Early October often brings a short but prime window for Albacore before warm water shifts back offshore. This is when the fish are typically at their biggest, having fattened up all summer. Finding them can take some work, but once located the action can be red-hot.
Techniques: Trolling, Live Bait, Swim Baits, Vertical Jigs
Tributaries – Fall Chinook
Tributary fall Chinook season is just around the corner. This week’s rain gave rivers a slight bump, but the next significant storm will really get fish moving. When flows rise, expect fishing to be excellent across the tributaries.
Techniques: Bobber fishing bait, Back-trolling plugs, Twitching jigs, Casting spinners
