Fishing report 11-15
Fall Chinook fishing at the coast is still going on and with the next few big rain events the fishing should be good for the tributary driftboat fishermen. Fisherman’s Pro, Josiah Darr, has been keeping his clients on the fish utilizing multiple techniques out of his driftboat. Backtrollling plugs is a great technique, Backbouncing or bobberfishing eggs and Shrimp are another couple of great options. Another fun technique that often gets overlooked for Chinook is twitching jigs. Yes it was designed for Coho fishing but the Chinook have no problem grabbing a hold of a twitching jig as it flutters down in the water column next to them.
Fishing for B-Run Coho in Southwest Washington is a great option right now as these fish are big, bright and love to bite when rivers rise and start to drop. These fish love to bite spinners, spoons, plugs, twitching jigs and eggs. Bring along a few of these options and you are sure to be successful.
Bottom fishing has been good for folks looking to catch some fish tacos. These delicious fish are caught on several types of techniques. Most folks will deploy Shrimp Flies, vertical jigs, large curly tail grubs or P-Line Rock Cod Rigs to be successful.
Crabbing has been good with the majority of them being completely full and lots of big keepers in the mix!
Razor Clammjng has been great at Long Beach and WDFW has been releasing dates for future digs. So be on the look out for the press releases as they usually come only days before the digs happens.
Catch and release Sturgeon fishing has been good with folks finding success in both the Columbia and Willamette. Shrimp, Squid, Herring and Smelt have all been getting bit.
Trout fishing in the Willamette Valley and in Southwest Washington has been surprisingly good. Typically, Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock quite a few local lakes with legal and trophy Trout just before thanksgiving. Giving folks another option for an outdoor activity over the holidays. Kastmasters, spinners, spoons, Mag Lip’s, Flatfish, Nightcrawlers, Power bait and Pautzke Balls o Fire are just a few of the many options that Trout anglers have to choose from.
Columbia River Walleye fishing is another fishery that folks can take advantage of this time of year. Although temps can sometimes be cold, the Walleye don’t seem to mind. Trolling Worm Harness’s with bottom walkers is the most widely used technique to catch these great tasting fish.
Duck hunting has been good, in part to the nasty weather that we have been experiencing. Fisherman’s Pro, Ted Teufel, has been splitting his time between the rowers seat of his driftboat and the seat in his Duck blind. And both have been yielding success!
