Fishing Report - November 19th, 2021
Fall Chinook fishing has been put on hold this week as nearly all local and coastal rivers saw heavy rainfall through the end of last week. This can be a good thing for some rivers as the massive amount of water will shove log jams downstream, widen certain sections or create new structure for fish. In essence, your next trip down your favorite river could be like fishing a whole new river. As rivers do fall into shape anglers will find success back trolling Kwikfish or Mag Lips, back bouncing eggs and shrimp or bobber fishing bait. Be sure to have several techniques on hand as you never know what might be the ticket that day.
Coho fishing has been just like fall Chinook fishing this week, nearly non existent. The crazy amount of water has made the fishing almost impossible. However, the minute that rivers drop into fishable shape look for the B-Run Coho to be snapping! These fish love high water and should be willing to bite. Twitching jigs, casting plugs, spinners, bobber and bait and even back trolling plugs will all entice the hard fishing fish.
Trout fishing is a great option this time of year and both ODFW and WDFW will be stocking lots of local lakes Henry Hagg Lake, Junction City Pond, Battle Ground Lake and Kline Line Pond are all lakes that have been stocked and will get stocked before Thanksgiving. Casting spinners and Kastmasters is a great way to target these fish. Trolling is another very productive option as you can cover lots of ground, keep a heater going in the boat and stay out of the elements. Make sure to check the stocking schedules from both ODFW and WDFW to get the most up-to- date info.
Crabbing for Dungeness Crab in Nehalem and Tillamook has been good and as the rivers drop back into shape the bay will clean out and the crabbing should get even better. As always, check the weather before your trip and plan accordingly.
Razor Clamming at Long Beach is still phenomenal and is currently open through the 24th of November. Be sure to pack your warm clothes and flashlights as the tides are evening tides.
Duck hunting has been great lately as all of this rain has created plenty of standing water for ducks to land on. Many hunters have been finding success in a variety of locations and with a wide selection of birds.
With the warmer weather we had last week and all of the rain, mushroom hunters have been finding success foraging for Chanterelle mushrooms this past week. Look for these delicious mushrooms to keep poking up in the coming weeks.
