Fishing Report 11-27
As our fall Salmon fisheries continue to wind down, Northwest Anglers continue to prepare for the arrival of hard-fighting Winter Steelhead, like this Sandy River chromer caught a few seasons back.
Fishing report 11-27
Fall Chinook fishing along the coast is still going and will be for another week or so. A lot of anglers will start bringing along some Winter Steelhead gear as this is the perfect time of the year for a combo trip. It can make for a fun day on the water when you backtroll Kwikfish through a run and then go back to the top to Bobberdog your way through for a Winter Steelhead. Bobber fishing jigs, beads or pink worms are all great ways to target early Winter Steelhead as they allow you to cover a lot of water effectively.
B-Run Coho fishing is still happening and anglers are finding success while using several different techniques. Eggs, twitching jigs, spinners, spoons and plugs have all been working. Southwest Washington streams have seen the most action.
Catch and release Sturgeon fishing is a great option this time of year. The lower Willamette is often loaded up with Sturgeon that are willing to bite all types of bait. Squid, sand shrimp, herring and smelt have all been producing well.
Bottom fishing has also been good. Now, the ocean can be unpredictable at times during the fall and winter months. But when the stars align, and the ocean lays down the bottom fishing can be stellar. Shrimp flies and Rock Cod Rigs are great multi hook rigs. Vertical jigs and large curly tail grubs make for great single hook options.
Crabbing has been very good, with folks finding success in most coastal bays.
Trout fishing has been going on and folks can expect to see lots of popular Trout destinations get stocked, as the Thanksgiving weekend is here. ODFW likes to give anglers extra opportunity to get outside this time of year. Bait fished off of the bottom or under a bobber is always a good choice even in cold-water temps. A fat nightcrawler is a meal that few Trout can pass up. Spinners, Kastmasters, small Mag Lips or Flatfish are also very good techniques to use.
