Fishing report 11-6
Tributary Fall Chinook fishing kicked off hot this past week. With loads of rain and the rivers rising, fish flooded into the rivers and the reports have been excellent! Backtrolling Kwikfish has been stellar for Fisherman’s Pro, John Klar, down in Northern California while a little further North, Pro, Mike Kelly, has been absolutely crushing the Fall Chinook out of his drift boat on the Sixes. Backtrolling Kwikfish, back-bouncing eggs and shrimp or bobber fishing bait has all been successful. This fishery should last well into December if we have decent river conditions and not too much rain all at once.
Tributary Coho fishing in Southwest Washington continues to be productive for folks. Twitching jigs, eggs, coon stripe shrimp, spinners, spoons and beads have all been producing well for anglers. Always try and bring as many of these options as you can so you can try different things.
Crabbing seems to have really picked up this past week with folks limiting out up and down the Oregon coastline. Fisherman’s Pro, Bill Monroe jr., has been doing extremely well fishing out of Astoria. His clients have been walking away with healthy limits of fat Dungeness Crab whenever he has a trip
Razor Clamming at Long Beach was really good over the weekend. Reports of quick limits and good size Razor Clams seemed to be the norm from our reports. Keep an eye out for the next scheduled digs as there are loads of tentative digs coming up.
Bottom fishing has been good and those who have been able to make it over the bar have reported great success. Pro, Andy Martin, has been bouncing back and forth between the Ocean bottom fishing grounds and tributary Salmon fishing. There has been a good mix of all species of bottom fish, especially Lingcod. Farallon feathers, large curly tail grubs, and vertical jigs have all been working well.
Trout fishing is still going on with several lakes getting stocked this past week including over 1,000 legal Trout at Walter Wirth Lake. Bait is a great choice as the fish are willing to eat anything that can help build up their fat deposits before a long winter. Boat anglers will do well trolling small Mag Lips, Flatfish or wedding rings tipped with worms. Try targeting woody areas or drop offs that create an ambush point for Trout to surprise attack their food.
Deer and Elk hunters have been finding great success with all of the rain and cold weather, which keeps the animals on their feet and moving around. Be sure to have quality rain gear on hand to help keep you in the woods longer.
