Fishing report 6-26

Salmon fishing has continued to be excellent all around the Northwest. The ocean opened for Coho and Chinook retention recently and the fishing has been good. Pro, Brandon Glass, got out on the big blue pond recently and found some exceptional fishing with good size Coho already in the mix! Herring and Anchovies were solid bait options with Soin-n-fish, Spindawgs and Superbaits all producing as well.

The Columbia has been absolutely delivering on the Sockeye from this year. This past week we had crazy numbers of Sockeye flooding the lower Columbia. Anglers were doing very well sitting on anchor or plunking small spin-n-glos and prawns, coon stripe shrimp or salad shrimp. Adding krill or anise to your bait has seemed to be a game changer for many folks.

Summer Steelhead fishing on the Columbia has been great as well. These fish typically run in the same depth of water as a lot of the Sockeye do, so you never know what you might hook. The occasional Chinook will fold your rod as well. So be ready for anything!

Catch and release Sturgeon fishing down in Astoria has been going strong. Pro, Chris Vertopoulos, has been showing this fishery with his clients where giant prehistoric fish come leaping out of shallow water on a regular basis. About as exhilarating as it gets! Herring, anchovies, sand shrimp and squid will be some of the top producing baits.

Bottom fishing remains a stellar option for anglers all along the coast. Pro, Andy Martin, has been stacking up limits of Lingcod down in southern Oregon. While Pro, Ted Teufel, has been finding a wide range of bottom fish including halibut, here in the Northwest coast. Couple that with some ocean Salmon fishing and you have a fun filled day on the water!

Konner fishing has been getting better by the day at many of the higher mountain lakes. Paulina, Green Peter and Crescent Lake have all been producing well with folks finding aggressive fish relativily high in the water column.

Trout fishing all across the state has been good and some of the higher mountain lakes have really started to takeoff as well. East Lake and Detroit lake both revived sizable plants of Trout this week along with dozens of other lakes, all around the state of Oregon. Fishing bait on the bottom is always a go-to technique, however boat anglers are finding amazing success trolling small flatfish, Maglips or hotshots.
