Fishing report 9-25

Fishing report 9-25

The Chinook fishing all up and down the Columbia has been killer! We have had Pro Staff trolling 360 flashers up near Hood River and finding great success. While others are down fishing in the lower Columbia by the Lewis River and also finding great success trolling 360 flashers.

There has been a good amount of Coho in the mix as well. These chrome, fiesty Salmon will attack spinners, Spin-n-fish, Spindawgs and Superbaits while trolled behind a 360 flasher. Look for this fishery to continue to be good as long as ODFW allows folks to fish the main Columbia.

Tributary Coho fishing has started to get better and with this weeks rain we should see a jump in rivers heights which will absolutely turn in the Coho bite. Pro, KC Talaro, has been catching Coho while fishing for Chinook and reports that there seems to be plenty of Coho around in Southwest Washington. These delicious fish love to eat spinners, spoons, twitching jigs, plugs, bait and beads. As we get more consistent rain, look for these fisheries to really fire off!

Along the coast the Crabbing has been stellar! Pro, Chris Nordling, has been finding limits in Astoria while Pro, Ted Teufel, has been filling his kill bags in Tillamook.

Coastal Chinook and Coho fishing has been great for most folks! In Nehalem Bay Pro, Russ Morrow, has been finding plenty of Chinook along with hatchery Coho to round out boat limits for his clients. In Tillamook Pro, Pat Abel, has been finding plenty of Chinook for his clients trolling herring and spinners. This fishery is really getting going and should continue to get better as we enter into October. This is one of those fisheries where 50lb Chinook are hooked almost every year. So be ready, the next bite you get could be one for the record books!

Bottom fishing is still happening and for those in the know, are finding light crowds and great fishing. Lingcod are definitely in the mix and folks are finding success using multiple baits. From large curly tail grubs to shrimp flies and vertical jigs there have been fishing g string caught on all the techniques.

Trout fishing continues to be a great option for folks and both ODFW and WDFW tend to plant large trophy or brood size Trout in the Fall giving anglers ample opportunity at some large Trout. Trolling small Maglips, Flatfish, Hottails or wedding rings will all produce well. Fishing bait is always a great choice. Powerbait, nightcrawlers and Salmon eggs have all been baits that have been producing fish for folks. Casting spinners is also a great way to target and

catch these late season Trout. Fish are stocking up their fat reserves for winter so they will ferociously attack a well presented spinner or kastmaster.
