Outdoor Report 1/5
Since Christmas, Steelhead fishing on the Clackamas and Sandy has been picking up. According to ODFW these fish are returning earlier than the norm. There are also a fair number of Steelhead being caught on the coast. Sturgeon retention is open with quotas in the Columbia River above Bonneville. For specific areas, bag limits, and to make sure the season is still open, check the regulations before heading out. Recent reports are coming in that the non-retention, catch and release Sturgeon fishing in the Willamette river is “on fire”. Duck hunters need to find open water to find ducks. Scouting is the ticket. Look for open water in areas that normally attract a lot of birds. Sauvie Island hunters are experiencing an increase in success again with more birds being moved down in their migration. The last shoot day on the GMA had a 2.4 bird per hunter average. Razor Clams remain closed on Oregon beaches due to high Dominic Acid levels. Bay clams are open and there are some good minus tides January 10th through the 15th. Crabbing is also open and should be good as well. If you are heading out this weekend, make sure you have your 2017 licenses. Tight lines and shoot straight and most of all be safe!
