In nature, when anglers see salmon flies landing on the water surface, the females are depositing their eggs which are attached to the rear abdomen. Early spring is prime time for using this pattern on numerous rivers from New Mexico to BC and the Rocky Mountains. Nymphs hatch in areas where the river current is mild to fast then latch onto rocks before molting and taking flight. Large trout will rarely refuse these tasty salmonflies.
